200 ISSUES OF THE BULLETIN - CELEBRATE BY ENTERING THE BOOK COMPETITIONS

bookcover

This issue of the Bulletin is the 200th, published over nearly 14 years. To give thanks to the Lord, and to thank you as a reader, we are offering some book prizes and other resources during this month. Special thanks go also to the publishers and writers who have made them available. These books all relate directly to a better understanding of the good news, and ways to communicate it (both offline and online) in the 21st century.

All you have to do is tweet, blog or Facebook about any or all of the books and other resources on offer. Names will be chosen randomly for each book/resource entry, and winners will be notified at the end of November.

Books include Scot McKnight's and Mike Frost's just published titles, memberships (worth $99) of Effective Church Communications Training website plus runner-up prizes of ECC ebooks, and other key books on evangelism and ministry in the 21st century context, popular culture, and mission advocacy for churches.

In all, there are 28 books or resources to win:

PLEASE SHARE YOUR STORY

If the Bulletin (or blog or website) has been an encouragement or help to you in some way, please tell me. It's always an encouragement for a writer or advocate to know what they are doing is not in vain! Also if you've been subscribing for a number of years, it would be interesting to know how long! With your permission, I may share any of your stories next time.

Please write to:

NATWIVITY AND CHRISTMAS

Once again, UK's Share Creative will be running the Natwivity blog to tell the Christmas story through a series of tweets by the participants. They say: "The Twitter Nativity starts 1st December with entries from Mary, Joseph and the others! Pass it on to friends and followers!"

It's a great conversation starter.

LET'S LOVE JAPAN writes:
"Last Christmas, the ministry Let's Love Japan launched an innovative outreach project, its Mobile Site Initiative. The basis of the project was the fact that over 80% of all internet access in Japan is done using mobile phones, including media access such as mobile video. In 2010, the project reached over 30,000 people who likely were hearing the good news for the first time. In 2011, they hope to reach twice as many.

Let's Love Japan is a ministry built around entertainment-evangelism. They produced an animated Christmas story called The Totally Mysterious Christmas in which three girls from Tokyo wonder what it is that makes Christmas such a special time. Suddenly, they are sent back in time 2000 years to the very first Christmas and are able to meet the new-born Christ. In subsequent stories they travel back and learn about the historical Christian Church of Japan, and of Christ's sacrifice for mankind.

One major plot device is the GPS unit built into the girls' phones which guides them through the story. In a similar way, the mobile website where the stories are presented has a GPS tool with thousands of Japanese churches in its database. The viewer is able to find a church or Christian community center using the GPS unit in their phone.

This Christmas outreach website - www.sugokufushigi.org - will be re-launching November 12 with several upgrades, including character voices and revised GPS map data. (Let's Love Japan is asking for prayer and financial support to be able to reach as many Japanese people as possible with the life-giving message of Jesus. As a 501c3 non-profit, all donations are tax-deductible in America.)

They ask people to create buzz about this Christmas outreach on social networking sites such as Mixi, Facebook and Twitter. Join their Facebook page to stay updated:

TAILEND FUN ô¿ô

Finally, the waitress of the year award goes to... a woman mentioned in the letters page of The Times.

A man writes that his parents and two friends went out for dinner one night.

Two of them were not so hungry, so insisted on children's portions.

When the meals were served, the waitress said to the couple who had ordered the standard portions: "Be careful, the plates are very hot." To the pair who had asked for children's helpings, she said: "Watch out, your plates are burny burny."
