BOOK REVIEW: @STICKYJESUS - HOW TO LIVE OUT YOUR FAITH ONLINE

Just published – @stickyJesus is a dynamic new book about sharing faith online through social networking.

Tami Heim and Toni Birdsong are gifted writers and communicators. Their blog tag-line 'keeping it real & living sticky online 4 Him' sums up their vision. 'Sticky' reflects their desire that the message should be shared in such a way that it clings to people's hearts. You can read the first chapter online in PDF format:

INCREDIBLE NEW ONE-CLICK VIDEO-CLIP SHARING TOOL

Christian media producer CVC is exploiting the exponential growth of social media. Their new YesHEIs.com website offers Christians a categorised range of third-party evangelistic video clips. For the first time, Christians have a one-stop source of approved conversation-starting video clips to easily share on Facebook (or other social media), embed in a blog, or download to a smartphone to share one-to-one.

This resource is strategic and powerful, because it combines the power of visual story as video clips, with the opportunity to start conversations within an existing social network of relationships. I cannot overstress its significance for biblical, relational, discussion-based evangelism.

Of course, posting video clips into Facebook is not new, but up to now, few people would have known where to find suitable video clips, or even how to add them to Facebook along with their own introductory comments. At last, here is a one-stop site for every Christian Facebook user, that requires zero technical knowledge.

Norway's Kommunion.no team have released a short video clip for children and younger teens called My Friend Forever. It is currently available in English, but other languages will soon be added. (It was, by the way, Anders Torvill Bjorvand, from Kommunion, who first suggested the concept of a worldwide web evangelism focus day.) You can view the video clip and get the YouTube embed code:

MOBILE DEVICES

QR CODES - USE THEM EVERYWHERE. ALL THE TIME. Depending on your church's demographic and mobile ownership, offering a QR code for people to read your church announcement sheet online is very practical for a phone-savvy congregation. Or at least people can be given the choice between a paper copy and finding it via a QR code.

Increasingly, you will see QR codes on display in shops, posters, etc. Since it takes about 5 seconds to use one of the free online QR generators, consider using them everywhere: on contact cards, leaflets, tracts, church roadside signage, etc.

MOBILE CONTENT is twice as difficult to read, says usability guru Jakob Neilsen. When reading from an iPhone-sized screen, comprehension scores for complex Web content were 48% of desktop monitor scores:

FACEBOOK CHANGE - in last issue, I referred to a blog Facebook 'Like' only adding a one-line mention that you 'Like' the blog post or webpage. The good news is that a single 'Like' click now actually posts the item onto the Facebook Wall. So, for instance, Church Marketing's WordPress plugin FBLike button will allow visitors to post a blog item. You can set it to appear both above and below a blog post. All blogs should, at a minimum, offer this plus a one-click tweet button such as TweetThis.

EXPLANATION: BULLETIN AND INTERNET EVANGELISM DAY NEWS CHANGES

* Because Internet Evangelism Day News was primarily a summary and forward link to the Bulletin, Day News subscribers will now just get the Bulletin instead.

* Bulletin subscribers by default get a reminder email about a week later, pointing out the online location of the Bulletin, in case the original email got quarantined or lost. If you are happy that this never happens, just ask by email 'to be removed from the Alert list'. (However to be removed from the main Bulletin, please do it yourself if possible using the instructions at the end of this page.)

* The Bulletin is designed to offer resources and links on a variety of topics, which you can skim easily to find the resources that interest you. For your convenience, and reflecting feedback many kindly gave, I will try to publish two shorter Bulletins each month, rather than a single longer one.

* If you prefer, you can subscribe by RSS with a reader system such as Google Reader http://www.google.com/reader/ - this enables you to follow all your newsletter subscriptions in one place. There are many different RSS options that may fit your needs, for instance desktop programs that display your latest RSS feeds. Use Google to find what options are available. Feedburner can also help you subscribe:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/web-evangelism/hJfU/~6/1

* You can syndicate the Bulletin into a webpage. See options below in page footer, or use Feedburner's animated headline box:
http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/headlineanimator/install?id=tf3t3c09hms4nd097el2ggqi3o&w=1

* A Bulletin summary can also be syndicated automatically into any Facebook Wall, using three easy steps:
http://www.IEDay.net/bulletin-to-facebook.php

* Your feedback about the Bulletin, or news to include, is always very welcome.
