THE MENTOR CENTER OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUR OWN CHURCH

Not everyone has the gifts to do, for example, creative writing, blogging, or web design. But some have the gifts that enable them to come alongside others, mentor them, answer questions sensitively. The Web creates far wider opportunities for people with these gifts. Outreach team PowertoChange.com has developed an email mentoring system for follow-up to their outreach websites, and continue to need volunteers for this work. However, they have opened up their Mentor Center functionality so that churches can use it for their own ministry. Check these links to learn more:

SOCIAL NETWORKING AND FACEBOOK

GET BLOG POSTINGS ONTO FANS WALLS, NOT NEWS FEEDS. If you have a Facebook fan page for which many of the postings are syndicated from your blog, would you like your fans to have the option to have these blog postings syndicated into their Facebook Wall (rather than merely appearing in their News Feeds)? This enables your blog posts to be seen on their friend's News Feeds too - a much wider audience.

Providing that you are already posting to your Fan Page via NetworkedBlogs.com (you need to register your blog with NetworkedBlogs, and then follow their steps to syndicate it), it is very easy for other people to also syndicate it, with three easy stages. I have described here how to do this for our own Digital Evangelism Issues blog:
http://www.IEDay.net/dei-to-facebook.php

The only step which is not intuitive is that you must offer them options at http://w.networkedblogs.com/syndication#12345
where '12345' is the reference number on the NetworkedBlogs URL when are logged in and syndicate your blog postings. If they log to that URL with their own Facebook account, they also have the opportunity to syndicate blog postings to their own Facebook Wall (or indeed their own Fan Page Wall), as the third stage of the process.

Of course, people are only likely to do this if they are highly committed to the message of your blog and Fan Page and there's also a high level of trust that your postings will be appropriate to their Walls.

If you'd like to syndicate Digital Evangelism Issues posts (2 or 3 a week max) to your Wall, please do!

LIKE BUTTON - What's so cool about the Facebook 'Like' button?

TRUNK.LY will create a syndicated feed showing all the links that you have recommended in Twitter, Facebook and your blog, as a single page. You can see all the links I've posted, or sign up for this new service yourself:

FACEBOOK DISCUSSIONS APP - although Facebook lends itself to limited discussion and interaction, for serious bulletin-board-like discussion, the Facebook Discussion App can fill the need:

POPULAR CULTURE

KING'S SPEECH - You can watch the trailer for the film here:
http://www.kingsspeech.com/
An edited version for the US market may well be released soon:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/jan/26/kings-speech-swearing-weinstein-oscars

I watched it yesterday, and it deserves all the awards it gets. The audience figures in UK have been phenomenal: older people who remember the King, younger people - a very wide audience. Apparently, well over 10% of the UK population has already seen it. It's even being shown in local community village halls, for instance in my own village, which is quite unprecedented.

It is therefore a huge opportunity as a conversation starter - face-to-face or online. Culture-watch ministry Damaris has produced free study materials about the spiritual and moral aspects of The King's Speech film:

TRON - David Buckna's latest pop culture quiz, based on the film Tron. These quizzes are free to republish in print or online with attribution:
http://www.assistnews.net/Stories/2011/s11010071.htm

SEEING CHRIST IN MOVIES - Frank Viola comments on this vital opportunity in a two-part blog posting. In the second, he includes some good parallels from INCEPTION that I had not seen before. Check both posts and the large number of insightful comments from readers:

TAILEND ô¿ô

"A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing."

"Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time."

"What if the Hokey-Pokey really IS what it's all about?"
