BOOK REVIEW: GOD SPACE

Most of us struggle to connect with outsiders and have meaningful conversations about faith. We may have been taught to use formulaic methodogies to steer conversations and proclaim set-piece 'one size fits all' gospel presentations. If ever these worked moderately well in times past, they don't now.

Pollock's book explains his concept of creating a conversational 'God Space' in which to engage, by learning to notice and listen, and thereby avoid a range of conversation killers or hijacking methods that control a conversation.

This book is of critical importance in understanding biblical evangelism in the 21st century. And its principles equally apply to online evangelism, such as the conversations that arise within Facebook. More details, read first two chapters online, watch video clips of Pollock:
http://www.internetevangelismday.com/blog/archives/4079

Other books:
WEIRD (yes, that's a book title) - check Ed Stetzer's interview with Craig Groeschel about Craig's new book, which also mentions LiveChurch's YOUVersion Bible app:
http://www.edstetzer.com/2011/04/leadership-book-interview-crai.html

CALL TO CREATIVES - E-BOOK: CREATIVE MATTERS is a call to arms for all of us who endeavor to create beautiful, transcendent and transformational experiences in and around the Church. It's a field guide of sorts... written by Creatives for Creatives... for those who work in the trenches of the 'Create-On-Demand' challenges that every weekend brings."

JAPAN'S PAIN AND THE POWER OF ANIME

Anime as an art-form is hugely popular in Japan and Asia - it is the animated cartoon equivalent of Manga-style comic illustration. And 'popular' means just that. Anime films in Japanese cinemas have mainstream audience ratings. Studio Ghibli's SPIRITED AWAY overtook TITANIC in the Japanese box office, and remains the top-grossing film in Japan, ever.

Of course, anime films have many different genres, with plenty of gangster and shoot-em-up stories. However, the whimsical tender stories from Studio Ghibli are a sheer delight to watch, and have a big following in the West too. If you want to get some sense of Japanese culture and worldview, then as for any country, you will learn it best through their story-telling. And Ghibli films are an excellent way-in to do this. (My entire family loves these films; we got the entire Ghibli box set from Anime United. Coming soon is the Ghibli version of THE BORROWERS.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_Ghibli

Watch Ghibli trailer trailer on YouTube.

Japanese culture is so attractive in many ways - the stoicism, politeness, understated reserve and gentleness, with a love of beauty and harmony. And yet... there is an empty hole in its center, where a loving creator God should be. Yet it's not that the culture is generally hostile to Christian faith.

Mission leader Dr. Minoru Okuyama explains why there are so few Christians in Japan. Less than one percent of Japan's population is Christian even though the religion was brought to the country over 150 years ago:
http://news.maars.net/blog/2011/03/28/mission-leader-why-so-few-christians-in-japan/

JESUS FILM IN ANIME: Just released for Easter is an anime retelling of the Easter story - MY LAST DAY:
http://www.jesusfilm.org/updates/110412

A further culturally-appropriate initiative was the recent launch of the Manga Bible, now available in multiple languages.
http://www.internetevangelismday.com/japan

May these minister to Japan in a special way in the coming months.

TAILEND ô¿ô

A teacher was taking her first golf lesson.
"Is the word spelled 'put' or 'putt'?" she asked the instructor.
"'Putt' is correct," he replied. "'Put' means to place a thing where you want it. 'Putt' means a vain attempt to do the same thing."
