USING FILM IN EVANGELISM

Michael Kosmas, a pastor who has planted a new church in South London, says films can help the church reach the people beyond its walls. One of its first ministries is the KA Film Club, which will invite members of the local community to come and watch a movie each month for free. See also other movie resources and ideas:

OPEN LETTER TO MISSION AGENCIES

The potential of digital media for evangelism and discipleship outside the West is growing dramatically. Mobile phones users now total well over 3 billion, and the bulk are in the Majority World.

There are 500 million users of Facebook in nearly 100 languages. Many in Africa and Asia can now read and update their Facebook pages without charge, using a mobile phone. The strategic mission gathering Lausanne 2010 (October in Capetown) will include a focus on these opportunities.

So we've produced an Open Letter to Mission Agencies, to highlight the growing range of opportunities:

Here is a short news item - please publish it in any newsletter or blog, on Facebook, Twitter, etc:

Open Letter to Missions Reveals New Gospel Opportunities

In August, the 5-billionth digital device was connected to the Internet! Digital media are changing our world for ever. The majority of mobile phone and computer users live outside the West. This offers a growing range of opportunities for online outreach and discipleship. Internet Evangelism Day, advocate ministry for digital outreach, has produced an Open Letter to Missions to highlight this dramatic potential:

COMEDY CLUBS - GREAT POTENTIAL

"I blame Bob Monkhouse. I trace my huge enjoyment of comedy, and attempts to make others laugh, largely back to his Mad Mad Movies TV programme," writes the organiser of a Christian comedy club:

MOBILE WEB: How to Prepare Your Site for Mobile Visitors - 5-min interview with Michael Martin and Pastor Ralph Wilson. All site administrators need to understand these issues:
http://www.wilsonweb.com/tools/martin-mobile-site.htm

FACEBOOK has just launched a new version of their mobile site in conjunction with many cell phone carriers around the world, that does not incur data charges. In other words, this version of Facebook mobile is available completely free on cell phones to many outside the West. Main difference between it and the normal mobile version is no images:

ARE TABLETS THE FUTURE? Smartphones are all very well, but the best of them cost as much as a full-size laptop, and using the web is harder and slower for anything other than finding short informational resources, or checking Facebook, email and Twitter. Tablet devices look set to have a big place in the future, both as book-readers, mini-laptops and web access tools. Because there is no need for expensive micro-miniaturization, costs can be lower. India is planning a 35-dollar tablet device, which may be subsidized for students at 20 dollars:

MORE ON APPS: There are iPhone apps (free or cheap) that enable the camera to do way more: Clearcam, Gorillacam and You Gotta See This!

There's a huge need for people to make creative Android apps that can be used for evangelism and discipleship. Is there any sort of Christian network group to link developers together for this? There surely should be - not to create another Christian ghetto, but to encourage each other and develop strategies. At present, Christian apps seem to be limited to online Bibles and books. Do you know of any that either an outsider would wish to download, or which would equip a Christian to use as one-to-one conversation starter? Please write:
