The Web Evangelism Guide exists to encourage believers to use the Internet for direct
outreach. Of the many thousands of Christian websites online, only a tiny percentage are
specifically designed to communicate the Gospel to non-Christians. It is our hope that
the Guide and its twice-monthly newsletter may equip Christians with new ideas and
strategies for many types of effective online outreach.
The Guide is edited by Tony Whittaker, and is a part of SOON Ministries, a
literature outreach ministry producing free papers in
several languages. SOON Ministries is a part of the interdenominational evangelical
mission agency WEC International, which has a number of ministries
within UK and international outreach and sending
bases in a wide range of countries around the world.
There are many opportunities for short and long term full-time ministry within
within WEC International
and within SOON Ministries.
Spare-time volunteer help can often be used too.
SOON Ministries adheres to the
Statement of Faith
held by WEC International.
SOON Ministries is based in Willington,
a small village near Derby in UK.
Purpose in detail
The Guide and its Bulletin newsletter exist to promote the Web as a medium for effective evangelism. Many of the
strategies outlined have a wider relevance to other types of evangelism too. In detail, this site attempts to:
explain strategies for writing effective outreach and church websites.
demonstrate the nature of the Web as a medium, and how it differs from print, radio, video, etc.
outline biblical communication methods and tools, including the Bridge Strategy, the Gray Matrix and the X Spectrum.
showcase effective websites using these principles.
offer guidelines on writing for the Web - the need for a journalistic style, with use of appropriate language, revising and editing.
give help on planning and designing a site, and how the pages should relate to each other through an effective navigation system.
provide practical webmaster tips.
explain techniques for page promotion and good search engine ranking.
encourage Christians to take training in web evangelism and related subjects, using the available resources online.
encourage Christian training colleges to include web evangelism modules in their curriculums.
suggest to cross-cultural mission agencies that they set up Cybermissions Departments for evangelism and discipleship, rather than merely using the Web for promotion to their Christian constituencies.
highlight the desperate need for outreach sites in non-English languages, or that target the 10-40 Window.
explain other methods of using the Web for evangelism, including chat rooms and bulletin boards.
